Meta-Aramid Filter Cartridges

Engineered for High-Temperature Industrial Dust Collection

KABORY Meta-Aramid Filter Cartridges are engineered for industrial dust-collection systems operating under continuous high-temperature conditions.

Unlike standard polyester cartridges, meta-aramid filter cartridges can maintain thermal and dimensional stability at elevated temperatures. However, producing a reliable pleated cartridge requires more than simply replacing polyester or PPS media with meta-aramid.

Because meta-aramid felt is flexible, the pleat structure, bottom connection and end-cap assembly must be specifically engineered to withstand repeated pulse-jet cleaning and long-term industrial operation.

KABORY combines stabilized meta-aramid pleated media with a specialized locked-bottom structure to maintain pleat geometry, prevent media pull-out and improve long-term structural reliability.

Why Meta-Aramid Filter Cartridges Require Specialized Engineering

Meta-aramid fibers provide excellent heat resistance, mechanical strength and flexibility. These properties make the material suitable for high-temperature dust filtration, but they also create challenges when forming a pleated filter cartridge.

Without proper structural control, a meta-aramid cartridge may experience:

  • Progressive pleat movement during pulse-jet cleaning
  • Pleat-to-pleat contact and uneven dust loading
  • Stress concentration at the bottom interface
  • Filter media separation from the end cap
  • Loss of sealing integrity during long-term operation

These risks cannot be solved through filter media selection alone. Reliable performance depends on the complete cartridge structure, including pleat geometry, media stiffness, bottom connection, end-cap bonding and manufacturing consistency.

Specialized Locked-Bottom Structure

The bottom interface is one of the most highly stressed areas of a pleated filter cartridge.

Repeated pulse-jet cleaning generates reverse airflow shocks that act directly on the pleated media. At elevated temperatures, continuous thermal expansion and contraction place additional stress on the connection between the media and the bottom end cap.

To address this challenge, KABORY uses a specialized locked-bottom structure that mechanically secures the pleated meta-aramid media to the bottom assembly.

This structure helps to:

Aramid filter cartridges with special locked bottom structure, featuring reinforced end cap sealing and stable pleated media support for industrial dust collection
Aramid filter cartridges manufactured with a special locked bottom process to enhance end cap stability, sealing reliability, and long-term structural integrity during pulse-jet cleaning.
  • Prevent filter media pull-out
  • Maintain stable pleat positioning
  • Distribute pulse-jet stress more evenly
  • Reduce movement at the bottom interface
  • Maintain sealing integrity during thermal cycling
  • Improve long-term cartridge stability

The locked-bottom design provides mechanical reinforcement beyond a conventional glued or press-fit connection, making it particularly important for flexible high-temperature pleated media.

Stable Pleat Geometry

Stable pleat geometry is essential for maintaining effective filtration area, uniform airflow and reliable dust release.

KABORY controls the complete pleating process, including:

  • Pleat height
  • Pleat spacing
  • Media stiffness
  • Cartridge diameter
  • Pleat distribution
  • End-cap alignment

Controlled pleat formation helps prevent pleat collapse, excessive contact and uneven airflow during operation.

The meta-aramid media undergoes a specialized stiffening and heat-setting process before cartridge assembly. This provides the rigidity required for consistent pleating while retaining the thermal performance of the meta-aramid fiber.

Designed for Pulse-Jet Cleaning

Industrial cartridge filters are repeatedly exposed to reverse-air shocks during pulse-jet cleaning.

If the pleated structure is not properly stabilized, repeated cleaning can gradually deform the pleats or separate the media from the bottom connection.

KABORY Meta-Aramid Filter Cartridges are designed to maintain structural stability under properly controlled pulse-jet cleaning through:

  • Stabilized pleated filter media
  • Controlled pleat spacing
  • Reinforced locked-bottom construction
  • Secure end-cap assembly
  • Consistent dimensional control

Actual cartridge life also depends on pulse pressure, cleaning frequency, filtration velocity, dust characteristics and system operating conditions.

High-Temperature Performance

Meta-aramid filter media is commonly selected when the operating temperature exceeds the practical range of standard polyester cartridge media.

Typical temperature capability:

Parameter Typical Value
Continuous Operating Temperature Up to approximately 200°C
Short-Term Peak Temperature Up to approximately 220°C
Filter Media Stabilized meta-aramid pleated felt
Cleaning Method Pulse-jet or application-specific cleaning
Cartridge Dimensions Customized according to drawings or samples

Temperature limits depend on the complete cartridge construction, including the filter media, end caps, adhesive, gasket and internal support components.

For humid, strongly acidic, strongly alkaline or hydrolysis-sensitive operating conditions, the complete gas composition should be reviewed before selecting meta-aramid.

Meta-Aramid vs. PPS Filter Cartridges

Meta-aramid and PPS filter cartridges are designed for different operating conditions.

Selection Factor Meta-Aramid Filter Cartridge PPS Filter Cartridge
Primary Advantage Higher temperature capability Chemical and hydrolysis resistance
Continuous Temperature Up to approximately 200°C Typically up to approximately 170–190°C, depending on construction
Moisture Resistance Application-dependent Generally better
Acid Resistance Limited to moderate, depending on conditions Generally better
Pleat Structure Requires controlled stiffening and reinforcement Depends on media construction and treatment
Typical Selection Relatively dry, high-temperature dust Chemically aggressive or moisture-containing flue gas

Meta-aramid should not be treated as a universal replacement for PPS.

The correct material should be selected according to operating temperature, moisture, oxygen content, chemical composition, dust characteristics and cleaning conditions.

Antistatic Treatment

Carbon impregnation or other antistatic treatment can be applied when required for dry dust-collection conditions where electrostatic charge accumulation must be controlled.

Antistatic performance should be evaluated as part of the complete cartridge construction. If a specific electrical-resistance standard or third-party certification is required, this must be confirmed before production.

Antistatic treatment alone does not make a cartridge suitable for every combustible or explosive dust application. The complete dust-collection system must be evaluated according to the relevant safety requirements.
